About

The Barberry Writers comprise literary talents L. E. Barger and Payton Christenberry. Drawn together through complementary styles and sympathetic sensibilities, the duo frequently collaborates, either coauthoring stories or providing close editorial review to each other’s work. Writers that are serious and playful in equal measure, both authors revel in experimentation and genre-bending.

L. E. Barger began his writing career drawing comic books on college ruled notebook paper and making his parents and siblings heap praise on him for his efforts. Eventually, he squeaked by through college earning a liberal arts degree where he majored in psychology and minored in creative writing instead of the other way around which is what he really wanted to do but thought the former was more practical. He is now a stay-at-home dad and aspiring writer if he’d pop his laptop open more than once a week. He lives in Witchita, KS, with his wife and two children.

Payton Christenberry was first drawn to storytelling when his grandmother purchased him a custom storybook from a kiosk in the mall back in 1992. He has scribbled, typed and dictated stories ever since. So dedicated is he to living the sparse life of a storyteller, he graduated college with a major in writing, a minor in theatre and then went on to work for a nonprofit. Aspiring to be as poignant as Gaiman, humorous as Pratchett and prolific as King, he will settle for continuing to be happier and more stable than Bukowski. He currently lives in Little Rock, AR, with his wife, two dogs, and a cat.
